Travelling by train they say can take the stress out of driving
(providing there are trains running that is.) You can sit back and relax
perhaps have a coffee and maybe something to eat, you can rest your eyes or
have a snooze, so long as you don’t miss your stop, or you can do something
else to pass the time. On a previous early morning train journey, I took to
London, the gentleman sitting next to me was listening to music and had
dozed off to sleep. On a couple of occasions, he started to lean towards me,
and his head came close to leaning on my shoulder but each time he sub-
consciously stopped himself from doing so. I guess he didn’t want to invade
my space and was trying to be considerate. This amused me and got me
thinking and the lyrics to the song, Lean on me by Bill Withers came to mind:
Lean on me when you’re not strong, I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on…
Sometimes when things are difficult for us in our lives, we all need someone
to lean on – a friend who helps us to carry on. In Proverbs 3:5 it says: Trust
in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
Sometimes we forget to trust the Lord and instead lean on our own under-
standing. We forget that we can always lean on our special friend, Jesus to
support us. We can lean on him in all circumstances. Because He loves us,
He doesn’t mind if we fall asleep, invade His personal space, or lean on His
shoulder. As brothers and sisters in Christ we can lean on and support each
other too.
I have certainly found this to be true in recent days where I have been leaning
on God and being still and resting in His presence. And leaning on friends and
family for support has been greatly appreciated. Thankyou.
Blessings and love,
Robert
