February 2025

I don’t know about you but I always find this time of the year rather
depressing. The celebrations of Christmas and the New Year are
over, and there seems to be a lot of cold damp
weather to come before Spring. Even so, we never doubt that
Spring will come, though I suppose it would be difficult to prove
that it will. It always has in the past, and we have experienced it
personally so many times that we take it for granted.
Nevertheless, it is a miracle to me, this annual rebirth of life that
bursts upon us with the first snowdrop. Looking forward to it keeps
me going.

Another thing I look forward to at this time of year is Easter, the
high point of the Christian year, when we celebrate the greatest miracle of all time,
the death and resurrection of Jesus. The resurrection of Jesus is another fact
experienced personally by hundreds of thousands of people, and millions more
have also come to know the truth of that amazing promise he made, recorded in
the last verse of Matthew’s gospel: “I am with you always to the end of time.” He is
alive today, close to us, even listening to our conversations. He stands at the door
knocking and if we want to let him into our lives, it’s just a simple matter of
opening the door and inviting him in.

Father, I thank you for all the signs of life and
goodness that shows through,
even on the darkest days.
Strengthen my faith in Jesus your Son,
and renew my hope and confidence.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
